Keep your conversations private with Proton Mail, an encrypted email service based in Switzerland. What makes encrypted email better? Because what's in your email is your business Gmail and and Microsoft Outlook can technically scan your inbox: These "free" email services may cost your privacy, using your messages for targeted ads, AI training, or data sharing. Proton Mail is different — funded by subscribers, not your data. Zero-access encryption means we never see your inbox, on any plan. It's free, and always will be, thanks to subscribers who upgrade to support privacy-first email for everyone. No more trackers in your inbox Email trackers tell senders and advertisers what you read and click on, and can follow you around the web. Proton Mail protects you from these digital spies and prevents companies from monitoring you. Import your messages, calendars, and contacts in one click Choose your provider Connect your Gmail account for an automatic import and ongoing sync, or import your email history from Outlook, Yahoo, Apple and more. Log in to your old account To start your import, sign in to the email account you’re switching from — Gmail, Outlook, or another provider — through Proton Mail. For Gmail, this also sets up your ongoing connection so new emails keep arriving in Proton automatically. Say hello to privacy Your imported emails are now ready and waiting in Proton Mail. For Gmail, you can also send and receive directly from your Gmail address without ever leaving Proton. Ad free, always free Proton Mail is a free and secure email service that's powered by our community, not surveillance capitalism. Proton Mail is a safer alternative to Gmail because when you use Proton Mail, only you can read your emails. In fact, not even Proton can read your emails. This is not true for Gmail, which retains the decryption keys for your data on the same servers where it stores your messages. This means that Gmail can read your messages or hand them over to the authorities if requested. Services like Gmail that do not store your data with zero-access encryption also put you at an increased risk in the event of a data breach. Proton Mail stores your messages with zero-access encryption, which adds an extra layer of resiliency against data breaches. Proton Mail will always offer a free secure email plan that provides all the basic functionality you expect from your inbox with the same level of security as our paid plans. If you upgrade to one of our paid plans, you will receive advanced email features, such as the ability to add more than one email address, extra storage, custom email domains, and unlimited messages. You will also be supporting our mission to build a better internet with privacy as the default.
